Stomping & Early Foot Lift in the Snatch & Clean

I don’t care how you move your feet in a snatch or clean—whether you shuffle or stomp.

Either one may be the best method for you—but in any case, there are two critical things:

First, you need to replace your feet in the correct position—that means in a sound squat stance, and directly under yourself and the bar so you’re balanced and stable.

Second, you need to correctly time the separation of your feet.

The typical problem with stompers is that stomping itself becomes such a focus that they cut the pull off early to pick their feet up.

This means less bar acceleration, more forward bar and body movement, and a slower pull under.

No matter how you move your feet, keep pushing into the floor until you’ve completed your hip extension and just started to pull under.

Internet people love arguing about foot movement and claiming there to be One True Way.

Seems like an odd argument to make when world records continue to be set with a variety of foot movement styles, but that’s just my silly rational side talking.

You need to find the method that reliably produces the best results for YOU—and then you need to develop that method until it’s technically sound.

The bottom line is that you need to:

1) Adequately accelerate the bar up with proper leg/hip effort/timing

2) Position your feet properly for a sound, stable receiving position
