No Floating in the Jerk
If your jerk looks like you’re gently floating through the clouds and landing on a pile of pillows, listen up!
Make every jerk as sharp and explosive as possible.
Imagine punching into lockout at the same time your feet hit the floor—and get those feet back to the floor instantly.
And tighten up when you lock out! Don’t continue sagging down under the bar when it’s already locked out.
The jerk is not a throw and catch—never should there be slack in the system, or a pause of active effort.
Drive the bar up with maximal effort, and never let up on the upward push into it as you split and receive overhead. This will let you lock the bar out at its peak height, avoiding crashing and extra downward force you have to resist.
Remember that the feet will contact the floor before the arms lock out—the idea of locking out at the same time is a cue to help with speed, not a description or expectation. That said, it should look and feel in real time like they do happen simultaneously.
